Sparking a Business by Chance: Remeha Candles Lit a New Path for Vandana Arora

September 12, 2024

Not everyone’s business story is same. There are so many reasons and motivations to start something of your own. And at times, this story can even have an unexpected beginning. Like, how Vandana Arora started Remeha Candles and More.

Remeha Candles as the name suggest is a candle brand, but with a difference. Firstly, the brand is all about sustainability; and secondly, it offers amazing customizations to clients so they can create bespoke candles for themselves. Here’s Vandana story of building a women-led brand Remeha Candles and More.

How Vandana’s Remeha Started:

Vandana was working in her family’s architectural company, as an interior designer. She always had a passion for expressing her creativity. It was after her son’s wedding when she attended a candle-making workshop as she was eager to spend more time learning new things. This workshop became the cornerstone of her starting her individual entrepreneurial journey.

Vandana received a lot of support from her family, especially her daughter-in-law. Her brand name itself is also a celebration women empowerment. “Remeha” was created by combining her nickname, Rempy and her daughter-in-law's name, Anumeha. Her daughter-in-law is not only her supporter, but also handles the brand’s social media page.

What Remeha Offers:

As we mentioned earlier, this women-led business has a deep commitment towards sustainability. At Remeha Candles you will find a wide range of handcrafted products made from vegan soy wax.  Vandana’s love for nature also comes across in her attention to details on curating small flowers to add to her artisanal candles.

She offers a variety of scented candles, like uril candles, dough bowl candles, peony candles, mini jar candles, as well as sachets and melts. Some of the signature fragrances you will find in her products include jasmine, vanilla, lemon, lavender, orange, rose and even exotic scents like Ylang Ylang, bergamot, cinnamon, clove, etc.

With prices ranging from ₹500 to ₹5000, these candles cater to various tastes and occasions. Her bestseller is the Urli Candles, which are also perfect for festive gifting options.

What is Remeha’s USP:

Apart from creating sustainable products, another USP of this brand is its commitment to customization, where they can create candles to meet anyone’s unique needs. Vandana works closely with clients to create bespoke candles that reflect their vision. From selecting the perfect fragrance to choosing the ideal packaging, every aspect of the process can be customized. This personalized approach helps not only provide something unique to the customers, but also helps her establish a deeper connection with her clients.

What are the Challenges she faced and how she overcame them:

There aren’t really any entrepreneurial journeys that come without their share of ups and downs. Even Vandana faced her share of challenges, particularly in the packaging process of her products. As candles are delicate items candles, making sure that they reach their destination without compromising quality was a significant hurdle for her. With her dedication and resolve to provide best service to her customers, Vandana overcame all the obstacles.

Another personal challenge in her journey as a woman entrepreneur has also been of overcoming her tendency to overthink and to strive for perfection in every aspect of her business. She feels that while attention to detail is a key thing needed for a business, but getting caught up in every smallest element can slow down the decision making process. She is constantly learning on how to balance this by trusting her instincts, taking risks and learning from mistakes along the way.

What is her mission:

Vandana doesn’t want her business to be just about creating beautiful products; it’s also about empowering women. She wants to create job opportunities for young women, especially from marginalized sections of the society. Her vision is to make community support a core value of her brand.

What is Vandana’s market and promotional approach for Remeha:

Candles is definitely a competitive space. Vandana keeps a keen eye on industry trends, particularly the growing demand for personalized experiences. She also attends workshops, online courses and industry events to keep herself updated with new knowledge that can help her improve and grow her business.

Vandana is currently selling through her social media and WhatsApp. She also regularly participates in various pop-up events and exhibitions, such as Women Listed Bazaar. This helps not only in the sales, but also keep a close eye on what customers are looking for.

What is Vandana’s Motivation:

Being an avid reader, Vandana finds her major source of motivation through books. Interestingly, she shares a personal anecdote on how she realized how deeply she has been inspired by The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. She believes that as the book emphasizes that the universe is constantly guiding and communicating with us, often through subtle signs and synchronicities, and this is what she has felt as well through her journey. She also feels her commitment to constantly keep learning and upskilling also motivates her significantly. Her advice for other women entrepreneurs is one she closely follows herself – Believe in your vision, even when faced with challenges, and remain committed to your goals.

Vandana’s dedication to her craft and her sustainability approach and the idea of customization make Remeha Candles a brand worth exploring. Additionally, by listing on platforms like Women Listed and exhibiting at events like Bazaar, Remeha Candles and More is gaining increased visibility, reaching a broader audience, and connecting with more customers who value artisanal craftsmanship.
