When it comes to education for their kids, parents always want the best. They are also constantly searching for new and exciting teaching methods that can make learning easy for children from a very young age. This is where Kiran Singh and Phonic Land come in.

With a 15-year background in education, Kiran went from being a teacher to the Head of Early Years Program (EYP). During her course as a teacher, Kiran observed that the teaching method in schools was conventional and non-engaging. Driven to enhance the reading journey for children, she decided to create programs that would break away from traditional methods and bring about a significant change in early childhood education.

This led to the launch of Phonic Land, where she makes learning an easy, engaging, and enthusiastic experience for children.

What does Phonic Land do?

At Phonic Land, Kiran offers Jolly Phonics programs to children aged 3 to 8. Jolly Phonics is a fun way to teach beginners reading and writing, emphasising the relationship between letters and sounds. When beginners grasp the essence of the sound that a letter makes, forming letters and words is easier for them.

Apart from programs for kids, Phonic Land also offers training to teachers so that they can develop their own programs to enhance children's reading and language learning skills. They also conduct teacher training workshops for reputed schools across Delhi NCR.

Phonic Land also conducts festive workshops for kids, and during the summer holidays, they have summer camps and reading competitions.

What Programs do they Offer?

Phonic Land offers three comprehensive reading programs designed to foster a love for reading among children:

  • Sound Box:

This Module is directed towards beginners, where they introduce sounds to children through interesting and engaging techniques. The idea is to help kids recognize small letters and their sounds and introduce letter formation using tracing sheets, among other things.

  • Reading Ladder Level 1:

This Module is the intermediate reading program for kids. Here Kiran teaches children how to blend sounds, enabling them to read decodable books by the end of the program.

  • Reading Ladder Level 2:

This is a higher level reading program for kids. It introduces digraphs, diphthongs, alternative spelling rules, and spelling strategies to help children read all types of books and spell confidently.

All programs are of different durations, from 3.5 months to 5 months.

How does Phone Land work?

Phonic Land classes are held online,  which makes them accessible to kids and parents across the globe.

They also provide trial sessions to new parents interested in exploring the program. These demo classes help prospective joiners to witness the teaching methods and student progress first-hand.

While all programs are group classes, modules are designed to ensure that each child gets enough time to read and learn and grasp the concepts clearly.

What sets Phonic Land apart?

Kiran has added innovative tools to make learning easy and fun for kids. They use storytelling through puppets, objects, books, and role-playing. They also use music and movement to teach students. For younger kids, they also use crafts related to sound and letter formation.

Another thing that sets Phonic Land apart is its commitment to ensuring every child learns to read, regardless of the time it takes. Unlike many competitors, Phonic Land extends programs free of charge if a child needs more time to achieve reading fluency. This approach underscores Kiran’s dedication to education over profits.

Achievements and Milestones

Phonic Land has reached several significant milestones under Kiran’s leadership:

  • They have taught over 2000 kids globally.
  • She has successfully conducted online summer camps with over 60 participants, featuring diverse activities like animal yoga, baking, art therapy, dance, music, and storytelling.
  • They have hosted offline Christmas and Holi workshops with high participation.
  • Initiated teacher training programs, where they even did a session for 80 teachers together.
  • She has more than 1000 testimonials supporting and stressing the importance of her programs and their positive results.

Overcoming Challenges

One of the significant challenges Kiran faced in her journey of building Phonic Land was conveying the importance and value of her programs to parents and educators, as Jolly Phonics is still a fairly new concept to Indian parents. Her determination to make a difference helped her overcome this hurdle, gradually gaining the trust of her clients.

Another challenge they faced during the Pandemic was transitioning from physical to virtual teaching. But this, too, they used to her advantage to enable her programs to reach a global audience. This shift has proven to be highly effective, expanding the impact and accessibility of Kiran’s programs.

Community and Social Initiatives

During the pandemic, Phonic Land provided free programs to children from families struggling financially. This initiative led to the establishment of the Phonic Land Foundation, which offers free courses to children in orphanages.

Mission and Vision

Phonic Land’s mission is to provide the best programs that ignite young minds and enable them to read fluently by helping them understand the core mechanics of reading.

Kiran wants to take Jolly Phonics to rural schools and conventional urban schools, making her programs accessible to a broader audience.
