Pregnancy is a time in every woman’s life that is filled with a lot of emotions, including joy, excitement, anxiety and fear. There are so many doubts and questions that new moms-to-be have in their minds, especially when it comes to baby products and essentials. Questions like - what to take in their hospital bags, what to buy for their newborn and from where, what all things would be essential for them as new moms, and many more - keep running through their minds. This list is endless. And, this is where mom-duo Garima Aggarwal and Deepti Gupta’s “The Baby First Box” comes as an amazing solution for parents-to-be.

The Baby First Box” is curating happiness by making hospital bags and baby hampers for parents-to-be that are assembled according to the weather, needs and gender.

The beginning of the Journey

It all started when Garima was expecting her first child. She was full of anxiety and nervousness as she was clueless about how to prepare for her pre-mom utilities and all the essentials she needed for her newborn. This was the time when her friend Deepti, whom she had known since childhood, stepped in to help her. Deepti, who had been a mom herself, made a list of essentials that Garima would need for her delivery. This list was a huge help for Garima as it eased her mind a lot.

Later, they shared this list of essentials with other moms-to-be in their circle, getting a flash of insight into a huge market gap. It was then that they decided to build a business around necessities for expecting parents, especially hospital bags.

All about “The Baby First Box”

With baby steps, they started their company in July 2019. As a brand, they aim for the comfort and joy for all parents-to-be. Being the baby’s first box, Garima and Deepti make sure the hamper is moulded out of love and warmth. It contains clothes, reusable cloth diapers, baby wipes, lotions and other baby care products.

Also, the hospital bags have all the essentials for the new parents, including feeding kits, breast pads, nursing aprons for dads, and many other products.

From First Sale to Brand Growth

It was not a piece of cake for Garima and Deepti when they launched, “The Baby First Box,” as they had their own share of struggles. It was difficult for them to get their first customer, and it's surprising to know that their first client was a househelp. Gradually, with the word spreading around, they started gaining recognition, and sales started following.

The duo’s target audience was expecting mothers who were quite active on Facebook, so they very smartly and strategically decided to make best use of social media to reach out to these women and to spread awareness about their brand.

In January 2020, they opened their own ecommerce website. And they are now reaching every nook and corner of India. They are also available on online marketplaces like Flipkart, Amazon and Meesho, where customers can easily buy their products along with their website too.

Building an empowering brand

Their baby sweaters are handmade by women hired from rural areas in Punjab and Haryana. The business owners provide these women with the raw materials and wages with the help of the local supervisor. This empowering women-led initiative helps the brand create employment opportunities in rural communities.

Collaborations and Tie-Ups

Keeping the best quality products in mind, “The Baby First Box” has collaborated with brands like Mothercare, Pigeon, Chicco, Miniklub, Nuby, Luvlap, First Step and Quick Dry. They have also tied up with more than 20 corporate companies like Tata Power-DDL, Interview Kickstart, Arcserve, Saint-Gobain, Unthinkable and so on, to provide their hampers for expecting parents there.

The journey has just begun for both Garima and Deepti and with dispatching to more than 10,000 pin codes across India, they are building a strong brand that can be trusted by countless parents. Their Instagram is loaded with positive feedback from mothers who have loved their hampers, and they call it “Jaadu Ka Pitaara.” Yes, it is a box full of magic!
