From Homemaker to Baker: Kanika Chopra’s Journey with Karamel & Créme

October 8, 2024

We all know that desserts can instantly put you in a good mood. And, there is something undeniably special about homemade desserts, the kind that take you back to comforting memories of the kitchen, where each ingredient is carefully selected, and every creation tells a story. This is the idea with which homemaker turned professional baker Kanika Chopra started her venture, Karamel & Créme. Here’s Kanika’s journey of building her business and what she has to offer.

How Kanika started her Journey

Kanika Chopra, an Economics graduate from LSR College, initially began baking as a personal passion. As a homemaker with two children, her love for creating delightful desserts at home quickly turned into more for her. It was during the pandemic Kanika decided to sharpen her baking skills by taking online workshops with celebrity chefs. She later did training under pastry chef Tejasvi Chandela as well. This personal growth slowly became the foundation behind the launch of Karamel & Créme, a dessert studio based in a cloud kitchen in Delhi.

However, the main inspiration behind starting Karamel & Créme came from the positive feedback that she received from her friends and family for her baking skills. She was motivated with the idea to bake and share her creations with the world.

What products is Karamel & Créme offering and what sets it apart

Karamel & Créme offers a wide array of artisanal desserts, from cookies and brownies to indulgent cheesecakes, tea cakes and celebration cakes. Kanika’s rose milk and pistachio tres leches is one of her best sellers, which was even featured in a Times Of India Holi special article. Her cookies and brownies start at ₹150 and cakes starting at ₹1800/- a kg and onwards.

Kanika keeps a keen eye on the quality of ingredients she uses in her desserts. Everything is baked fresh daily from scratch, with no use of pre-mixes, additives, preservatives, or enhancers, as she wants to ensure each product is of the finest quality.

What Challenges Kanika faced and how she overcame them

Building a business is not without its challenges. For this woman entrepreneur, hiring and training the right team, understanding the intricacies of tax compliance, and ensuring the safe delivery of delicate desserts were among the key hurdles she faced.

Speaking of challenges she had to overcome, Kanika stresses on the importance of managing social media for business promotions as an area where she has to continuously work hard to improve.

How has Kanika been marketing and growing her Brand

Visibility is crucial for any brand, especially those led by women entrepreneurs. And, marketing plays a crucial role in Karamel & Créme’s growth strategy. Kanika promotes her brand through collaborations and pop-up events. She also takes part in Lifestyle Exhibitions in Delhi NCR, like the upcoming Women Listed Bazaar on 17th October, in Delhi. These events help her not only to reach new customers but also showcase her products. Apart from this, she is always working on improving the social media presence of her brand to give it more edge in the digital age.

Platforms like Women Listed play a pivotal role in giving businesses like Karamel & Créme the visibility they deserve. Women Listed helps promote small and big women-owned businesses, ensuring they get the attention and recognition they need to grow and succeed. By listing or taking part in the Exhibition Bazaar, Kanika can showcase her brand to a larger audience, connecting with potential customers and collaborators.
