Threads of Empowerment: Geetu and Pooja Sareen’s Fashion Revolution

April 30, 2024

In a world where fashion trends come and go, there are those who not only follow the trends but also shape them. Meet Geetu and Pooja, a Delhi-based dynamic duo behind a fashion venture that’s been making waves for nearly two decades. With roots tracing back to Lahore, their early days were a testament to resilience and adaptation. They didn’t just import fabric; they imported a vision. The Indian fashion scene, once enamored with Pakistani styles, found a new flame in their indigenous creations. Geetu and Pooja’s brand wasn’t just about garments but about reclaiming identity, bringing in a labor of love that aspires to dress women of all shapes and sizes, making them feel their absolute best in their colorful and unique coord sets, kurta sets, and sharara sets.

Their story, woven with determination and innovation, caught the eye of Women Listed, a platform dedicated to showcasing the trailblazers shaping the world and providing visibility and recognition to female entrepreneurs and their businesses.

Creation of ‘Geetu Pooja’

Geetu and Pooja’s story began in a small studio, where they showcased their creations at exhibitions across various cities in India. Pooja shared her story with us, telling how it all started: “I was always a bigger person than Geetu and always had a challenge to dress myself up, and things weren’t so easily available 20 years ago about what to wear. So I told her I wanted to look different. I was bored of wearing the same thing, so our story actually began like that.”

To this, Geetu said, “Ok, let’s go to the market and make 15 things for you.” The duo went to make outfits for themselves, and wherever they wore them, they would get lots of compliments, and people would ask me where they got them from. Taking it a chance, they thought, “Let’s have an exhibition.”

Geetu and Pooja started with 70 pieces. They got their first two clients even before they had their first exhibition, and between the two clients and their families, they were sold out. From Delhi to Mumbai, Pune to Bangalore, Chennai to Jaipur, their designs caught the eye of fashion enthusiasts far and wide. But their reach didn’t stop there; soon, their creations found their way to international markets in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, and London, earning them a loyal clientele worldwide.

USP of Geetu Pooja and Challenges Faced by Them

What sets Geetu and Pooja apart is their exquisite designs and their mission to make fashion accessible. Specializing in semi-casual and formal wear, from kurtas to co-ords, they have carved a niche for themselves with their well-priced offerings. If you take a keen look at their designer collections you will see how beautifully each piece is crafted. One of the most important things about their brand is their coord sets which have the premium festive look and their sets don’t look like normal loungewear.

The color coordination, be it your whites or the lacey affair, they have covered every style for the trending market. Bringing comfort with fashion is something that ‘Geetu Pooja’ has marveled at. And with so much distinctive handcraftedness comes its own challenges. Pooja Says, “We do it all ourselves and with the help of our skilled artisans. It’s always trial and error explaining that to a tailor who is really not that educated is our biggest challenge.” Despite the challenges of production and dealing with labor, they have remained committed to maintaining the quality and affordability of their products.

But beyond business success, Geetu and Pooja are also champions of empowerment. They actively support women artisans and workers, providing opportunities for employment and skill development. From hiring marginalized women in their office to encouraging their tailor to involve more women in crafting, they embody the spirit of women supporting women. And as they prepare to launch their website and expand their online presence more and more, Geetu and Pooja show no signs of slowing down.

What makes Geetu and Pooja truly special is not just their success but also their shared vision. With complementary strengths and a shared mindset, they navigate challenges together, inspiring each other to new heights. As they often say, “We have each other, and that’s our strength.”

Their story is a reminder that passion, perseverance, and collaboration can turn a hobby into a successful venture. As they continue to inspire others with their creativity and dedication, Geetu and Pooja prove that anything is possible with the right attitude and support. Lastly, Pooja shares her words of wisdom, “The day you make your hobby into work, you will never have to work for the rest of your life. So I really feel if you are lucky, like we’ve been lucky to turn our hobby into our work, it’s been a smooth ride. And never overbuy, be sure-footed, don’t have back stock, that deadstock is killer.”

So, the next time you slip into a beautifully crafted garment, remember the story behind it—a story of two women who dared to dream and turned their passion into a global phenomenon. Geetu and Pooja are not just designers but changemakers, making a difference one stitch at a time.

And with Women Listed, they get to share their story on a larger scale, where thousands of aspiring women come together to get inspired, celebrate their entrepreneurial journey, and create an impact on how successfully they have come so far.
