Rising Above the Odds: Inspiring Journey of Special Needs Entrepreneur Assavari Gulati & Artsy Farsty

March 14, 2024

We have often heard the phrase “follow your passion,"  but it is definitely easier said than done. But when you meet Assavari Gulati, you realize that this phrase can be truly empowering as well. Following her passion, Assavari, a young girl with special needs in her mid-twenties, used it to become not just independent but an entrepreneur.

Assavari, despite facing challenges that life threw her way, has empowered herself by building a brand of handmade products called “Artsy Farsty," where every creation tells a unique tale. Her love and dedication to make new things have given wings to her imagination, and she treats “Artsy Farsty” as her child.

Story behind, “Artsy Farsty”

Since her childhood, Assavari Gulati always had a love for colors, and making beautiful craft items. Her natural inclination towards being creative was something that was always appreciated. And this led to her joining classes for art and craft. Her hobby soon turned into her passion when she started making more of her craft items and thought of uploading them on her Instagram page, “Artsy Farsty.”

It's quite appreciable that, being a special needs girl, Assavari handles her Instagram page independently. She clicks pictures of her creations and posts them all by herself. She makes sure her page looks as colorful as possible, giving it a whimsical touch.

Journey of passion to entrepreneurship

Somewhere in between uploading the items on her Instagram, Assavari had this feeling of sharing her creations with a larger audience, and potentially she made the decision to turn her passion into entrepreneurship.

Among her offerings, one can expect to find an assortment of pots, frames, wax tablets, bookmarks, and many more. In crafting her creations, Assavari keeps a keen eye on the details of every piece she makes. She likes using vibrant colors and high-quality materials to make her items look more attractive and unique.

Her first exhibition and sale

Moving out of her comfort zone of social media, Assavari showed confidence and took a chance to display her products in an exhibition. The idea of showcasing her items at an exhibition was filled with mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness. She was not sure about how people would react to seeing her creations. And, to her surprise, the response from people was an overwhelming one. The positivity that was poured was unmeasurable. People who visited her stall highly appreciated the creativity and craftsmanship behind each piece.

The sense of being financially independent as an entrepreneur came to Assavari when she had her first sale, and that moment was thrilling. It gave her a sense of accomplishment and encouraged her to pursue her passion further by making more handmade items.

Being independent at a young age

The desire to be independent and self-learn came to Assavari when she was creating her craft items. She used digital technology as her source of power and independence, and as a stepping stone into the world of entrepreneurship.

Looking at her dedication to building her own brand, Assavari’s parents have been exceptionally supportive of her initiative, always encouraging her to be independent and not let her condition as a special needs girl hinder her aspirations. They have consistently empowered her to pursue her passion for creativity, providing guidance and resources along the way. This unwavering support has undoubtedly played a significant role in Assavari's journey with “Artsy Farsty.”

Her vision ahead

The vision and dreams that Assavari has for her business are quite big, and she further hopes to expand “Artsy Farsty” in order to reach a wider audience and to inspire all other special needs children that they are no less than the others.

Assavari and “Artsy Farsty” will be coming in an exhibition of “Women Listed Bazaar” on April 5, 2024, where you can have a look at her products.

It takes a great deal of courage to pursue what one dreams of, and Assavari has set an example by overcoming her obstacles very efficiently. All she requests is that you pursue your passion, embrace creativity, and support independent artists and small businesses like “Artsy Farsty,” rather than promoting the brand of a celebrity who might not even know you. Such an act of kindness will give them more recognition.
