Nishita Thakur's Journey of Building Healthcare Platform for Parents

March 13, 2025

Not every business starts with entrepreneurial ambition; some happen due to life’s challenges. The latter is how Nishita Thakur became a Founder. From starting as an IT professional to becoming the Director of Altilium, a renewable energy firm, her career path was already impressive. But it was the birth of her premature twins that not only changed her life as a mother but also made her see a huge gap in pediatric healthcare management in India.

Inspiration behind Nishita Thakur’s Entrepreneurial Venture

When her twins, Aarna and Aarav, were born prematurely at just 27 weeks, Nishita was thrown into a whirlwind of hospital visits, medical records, and an endless cycle of doctor appointments. Between caring for fragile newborns and juggling her career, keeping track of everything was becoming an overwhelming task for the new mother.

Organizing children’s medical records – prescriptions, vaccination dates, growth charts, and other reports – was a constant struggle. Every appointment meant digging through stacks of papers, and in moments of urgency, retrieving the right information felt impossible. While going through this, she soon realized she wasn’t alone. Thousands of parents faced the same chaos, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities where digital healthcare solutions were scarce.

That’s when it clicked – there had to be a better way. Her personal struggle became the inspiration for Kidscur, a digital health repository born out of her necessity to make every parent’s life easier.

How Kidscur is Helping Parents

Unlike existing health management apps, Kidscur is designed with parents in mind, providing a seamless and comprehensive approach to pediatric healthcare management. The platform allows parents to easily upload and access their child’s digital health records, ensuring that prescriptions, medical reports, and vaccination details are always within reach. Kidscur also includes a built-in vaccination guide with timely reminders, and offers a growth and milestone tracker to monitor a child’s development over time. The platform also includes a doctor and pharmacy locator for quick access to healthcare.

What sets Kidscur apart is its focus on smaller cities, where digital health solutions are still not available easily. The platform also offers a subscription-based model for clinics, allowing pediatricians to onboard multiple parents and provide structured health management as a value-added service.

Mission, Vision and Future Plans for Kidscur

For Nishita, Kidscur is more than just a digital health tool, it’s a movement to simplify pediatric healthcare for parents across India, especially in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Her goal is to create a connected healthcare ecosystem where parents, doctors, and clinics collaborate effortlessly, ensuring informed and timely medical decisions for children.

Her vision is to expand Kidscur’s reach and onboard more clinics. She wants to make the platform easier and more inclusive, by introducing AI-driven health insights, multilingual support and teleconsultation services. Over time, she aims to scale Kidscur to include adolescent and maternal health tracking, giving a more holistic healthcare experience to families.

The Challenges Nishita Overcame

Starting a business in health tech without a medical background was no easy feat. Nishita had to navigate regulatory challenges, build trust with parents, and ensure airtight data security. She overcame these hurdles by working closely with doctors, legal experts, and tech specialists to develop a platform that is user-friendly, safe, and compliant with healthcare regulations.

Balancing motherhood and a startup was another challenge. Nishita credits her husband’s unwavering support as a key factor in her success. While she spearheaded Kidscur, he backed her financially and emotionally, making their partnership both personal and professional. Even with her husband as an investor in the business, Nishita remains the key decision-maker when it comes to Kidscur.

Recognitions & Achievements

Despite being a relatively new venture, Kidscur has made significant strides, such as increasing adoption among parents and pediatric clinics. It was also selected for the pre-incubation program at IIM Bangalore NSRCEL.

Kidscur has also been recognized as the ‘Most Influential Kids Brand 2024’ by School Yatra & GFRIS Foundation. Most recently, Nishita Thakur won Women Listed “Celebrating Excellence Awards 2024,” for her innovative business idea identifying a marketing gap and helping others in the process.

What Encouraged Nishita in Her Journey

Nishita recalls a defining moment when a parent reached out to share how Kidscur helped them track vaccinations and retrieve a critical medical record during an emergency. That validation reinforced her belief that she was solving a real problem. It has been encouraging feedback from parents reassures Nishita that she’s on the right path and to keep growing.

Nishita’s journey is proof that businesses built with purpose and passion can truly make a difference. Kidscur is not just an entrepreneurial venture – it’s a mission born from a mother’s experience, driven by empathy, and fueled by innovation.
