In a society where subjects like periods, sex and related topics are usually hushed or stigmatized, it’s essential to have voices challenging these taboos. Sachee Malhotra, the pioneering creator behind “That Sassy Thing,” leads this charge. Apart from crafting intimate health products, she champions empowerment and inclusivity in sexual wellness. Her journey marks a change by openly talking about and making these basic aspects of human life normal.

Early Struggles With Pcos: Shaping A Journey

Born and brought up in Delhi, Sachee Malhotra struggled with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) during her schooling years. This condition led to various issues, including weight gain, excessive body hair growth, prolonged periods, and menstrual cramps. While dealing with health issues, she also faced bullying due to her appearance, which deeply damaged her self-esteem, confidence and mental well-being, leaving her feeling isolated and vulnerable.

And when she grew up, along with the mental stress she also faced physical issues like vaginal dryness, painful periods, and discomfort during intimacy with her then-boyfriend, who is now husband. Because of this, she started looking for products that were safe and good for her body but didn’t find any. Struggling to find safe and suitable products for her body, she conducted extensive market research and found that femme hygiene and self-care space was under-served and lacked representation.

Facing all her teenage experiences and adult difficulties, she got motivated to start a female-centric, chemical-free, all-natural intimate care product brand because she knew that what she went through was not only her story but that of many.

That Sassy Thing: Redefining Sexual Wellness

Following her vision, in 2021, Sachee Malhotra founded “That Sassy Thing,” making it India’s first female-founded new-age D2C sexual wellness brand. It serves as a one-stop-shop offering enjoyable, accessible, and practical body-safe products to people of all genders and ages. It was started with the aim of revolutionizing the sexual wellness industry by promoting inclusivity, empowerment, and holistic well-being for everyone.

Sachee herself invested a lot of time and money in designing, testing, and refining her products. She sourced related items from around the world to identify their strengths and weaknesses in crafting her own products. She also interviewed many women to understand their experiences with existing intimate care products and the issues they faced. In the conversation, she found that certain products, like flavored lubes, were excessively sticky and contained artificial sweeteners, disrupting pH levels and causing itching and rashes.

In response, she introduced ‘qween’ India’s first all-natural, pH-balanced, water-based sexual lubricant. Later, she launched other self-care products, including intimate hair oil and body washes, period cramp roll-on sticks, underwear detergent, and many others.

 “That Sassy Thing” Revolutionizes Conversations

Today, “That Sassy Thing” is changing sexual wellness by offering high-quality pleasure and intimate care products. It encourages a community-focused approach, empowering people to feel confident about their bodies. The brand challenges societal myths and encourages open discussions about periods, body hair, sex, pleasure and more to make these topics normal and accepted.

Sachee’s narrative signifies the incredible potential of overcoming adversity, shaping a brand that encourages individuals to embrace their bodies and seize control of their stories. Also, she is marking a pivotal stride in making intimate health talks more accepted and breaking societal norms, bringing empowerment, knowledge and acceptance to the forefront.
