5 NGO Making Society Equitable For Women Community In India

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India are working to make society more equitable for women community. Despite progress made over the past few decades, there is still a way to go before women in India have equal rights and opportunities as men. NGOs are doing important work to help close this gap. They provide education and training programs, advocate for change, and create support networks for women community. Gramin Vikas Evam Chetna Sansthan: This nonprofit organization for women works to improve rural areas and underprivileged communities, empower women, support craftsmen and provide jobs. Gramin Vikas Evam Chetan Sansthan(GVCS) was founded in 1998 in Barmer, Rajasthan. It is committed to empowering women entrepreneur artisans by making handicrafts a viable means of home-based employment for financial independence.
Milaan Foundation: Milaan Foundation envisions an inclusive and equal world, where every girl has the knowledge, skill and social environment to pursue her dreams and explore her full potential. The foundation as an NGO for women and girls believes in the power of girls to be leaders, driving intergenerational and systemic change, especially in economically and socially challenged communities, making them inclusive places of opportunity and equality.
Azad Foundation: The Azad Foundation helps underprivileged Indian urban women who experience any kind of maltreatment. It works to give them a life of dignity and to enable their independence. At the Foundation, women go through a six-month course which includes self-awareness, defense training, sexuality and reproductive rights and more. Their recent collaboration is with Sakha, a women-led cab driver service for women clients in cities.
CREA: CREA is a feminist human rights group that was established in New Delhi in 2000. It offers venues for challenging repressive standards and carries out initiatives to boost women's self-esteem, sexual awareness, and leadership potential. It is a part of the International Women’s Organization in the global south.
Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan: Founded in 1992, Rajasthan Samgrah Kalyan Sansthan (RSKS) is a grassroot non-profit organization focused on helping marginalized women and girls. The NGO for women promotes empowerment, sustainable livelihood, girls’ education, gender equality, child rights, and welfare of marginalized and deprived sections of the women community.
These NGOs have done some great work for the women community in both rural and urban areas. They also offer support and advocacy services to help women obtain equal treatment in areas such as healthcare, housing, and legal rights. As a result of these efforts, Working women in India are slowly but surely gaining ground in terms of social and economic equality. While much progress still needs to be made, the work of these NGOs is helping to create a more just society for all.
